Sunday Startup - Sound

Arrival times:

  • First service (8:30): be there by 7:50 if possible — the band does a sound check at 8:00.
  • Second service (10:30): by 10:20 would be great. Everything will already be on from first service — there's nothing to reset between services.

Powering on

  1. On the MEDIA2 (streaming) PC, launch the RBC control app and use it to power on the equipment, in this order:

    1. Stage rack
    2. Soundboard — wait for the board to finish booting
    3. Amps
  2. Once everything is on, bring the main fader up to Unity (0).

  3. Unmute the band, Israel, and the vocal mics for practice using the mute groups on the board:

    • Mute group 1 — band
    • Mute group 2 — vocal mics
    • Mute group 3 — Israel's vocals and guitar

Board settings and scenes

The soundboard comes back up with the last used settings, so normally you don't need to load anything.

If something is really messed up, you can recall a scene: find the latest-dated normal service scene (the ones with no notes on them) and load it.

The channels that really matter:

  • 16 — Podium
  • 15 — Pastor
  • 14 — Israel (worship leader)

For the full board reference, see the Channel Layout and M32 Routing.

During the service

Follow along with the service, keeping most channels muted unless they're needed.

  • Music: mix for a good blend of instruments, background vocals, and leads.
  • Sermon: make sure it's loud, but not too loud.

Live stream mix

There is a mixbus for the live stream. To check it, select the monitor sends fader layer and solo #8 — Stream.

To adjust the stream mix without touching the house mix: select the stream channel, do a fader flip, and adjust the faders — you're now mixing just for the stream. See also Adjusting the Live Stream Mix.

Batteries

The worship team handles batteries — the sound person just needs to know how it works:

  • The main microphones, Israel's in-ears, and his guitar pack get dropped in the Shure charger by the piano, and the worship team monitors it. Same with the pastor's lapel mic.
  • The band's in-ear packs use AA batteries from the AA battery charger.
  • Battery levels for the main mics can be checked on the Shure receivers, or in the Shure Wireless Workbench software on MEDIA2.

Shutdown

  1. Mute everything

  2. Turn off the equipment using the RBC Control App on MEDIA2, in this order:

    1. Amps first
    2. Then the mixer and stage box
  3. Cover the board back up with the dust cover

Do not use the power switch on the back of the board

Never turn the board off from the physical power switch on the back — always power it down through the RBC Control App.
